New Design For The Win
Following a few months of stagnation (thanks to a busy college schedule), I got around to doing a redesign here. I'm taking it in a much simpler direction for the time being. One post at a time, linear newer/older navigation, plenty of room for stories, no comments. I like how it has turned out thus far, so I think I'll keep it like this for the time being.
The site is still running my personal blog engine using the same database as the last version, so content from the last two-ish years should still be here. However, I've decided to retire my original blog's database (ie: 2004-2008). While there was some good stuff there, I figure not much was getting read so I pulled the plug.
Hopefully changing the format of the site will spark a bit more creativity on my part. Single posts will be the focus, so I don't have to think as much about sticking to one theme. Hence the new tagline, "Design, Technology, and Life." In order of importance, those are probably the most commonly found posts here, so how much more concise can you get?
I went with a nice slab serif font for my new logo, and took the obvious creative route of changing "1080" to a wordmark and supplementing the "Degrees" with a degree symbol. Nothing too creative, but I think it looks a lot cleaner. Then, attached to the logo is the tagline which appears to "fly" behind the logo, like a plane with a message.
Furthering this whole idea of a plane in the sky with a banner attached is the Chicago skyline in the background. I borrowed the image from Stuck in Custom's flickr. I'll probably work on making it look better for people with massively wide resolutions. However, for the time being a simple repeat works well enough.
Hopefully you like the new looks. In my mind, simpler is better, so I like it. Keep checking for some new updates now that I feel a bit more motivated.
